About Trevor

Trevor Myers is a storyteller, journalist and editor who specializes in video work and copy editing. During his final semesters, he wrote and published more than 100 articles across various websites, news outlets and magazines. He has closely edited texts of varying lengths, from short-form breaking news articles to a full-length novel. He has also shot and edited video content including a 15-minute documentary, 90-second news packages and social media content

Trevor majored in communications, with an emphasis in journalism, and minored in editing and publishing. He completed his undergraduate in December 2023 — a semester earlier than scheduled.

Trevor believes his experience as Executive Producer at BYU helped him land a summer internship at KHON2 News in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 2023. As a full-time intern, he shadowed reporters, producers, photographers and members of the digital team. He conducted interviews and wrote stories for the newscasts, and he also wrote content for the website under his own byline.

During his final semesters at BYU, he was the Executive Producer of the Universe Live broadcasts, which aired four days a week. Trevor helped other students gain familiarity with industry-standard software, including Adobe Premiere Pro and ENPS. Trevor worked with his Associate Producer to find news, stack the show and ensure reporters and anchors were ready for air. Trevor also mentored student producers while anchoring for the show. During his first semester as a producer, he was concurrently shooting and editing packages as a student MMJ reporter.

At BYU, Trevor wrote news articles for the student-run publication the Daily Universe while adhering to strict deadlines for each article. He also wrote breaking news stories for both the paper and the newscasts. Several of his articles were shared on the Universe's social media channels with thousands of followers and placed in daily newsletters sent via email.

When Trevor began writing for the Universe, he simultaneously worked as an editorial writer for the College of Fine Arts and Communications External Relations Office at BYU. He started this position in June 2022 and was promoted to Team Lead by September 2022.

While on the editorial team, he wrote and edited news releases, feature articles and advisories. He also drafted and edited copy for social media posts, newsletters and emails. As Team Lead, he conducted and facilitated several weekly meetings as well as created workflows and tutorial videos to help team members understand their duties.

At the External Relations Office, he improved communication skills with clients and gained valuable experience dealing with clients from a PR standpoint. He worked with content management systems including Brightspot and WordPress, in addition to productivity and collaboration software including Google Suite and Microsoft Teams.
